Meet our son Mike!
Approximately 2 years ago we adopted Ashley and Nicole. Ashley had been in 29 homes by the time she was in a place where adoption was possible. We went to court to finalize each adoption and the judge turned to Ashley’s brother and said, "Mike, today your little sister will be adopted by the Albertsens. But, due to your behavior you will not".
Mike is a special big brother. He always put his little sisters’ needs first. On that morning Mike smiled as he held his sister. I looked into Mikes eyes and I reached out to hold him. This was the first and last time I ever saw him show pain. As his eyes filled with tears I screamed deep within myself, "Doesn't anyone see this child!" On that morning Mike needed no words to tell us he was hurting. Dave and I held Mike and made a committment to never leave him. He would always be our son.
Mike was a few months short of his 16th birthday when these pictures were taken. He is now almost 18 years old and is about to leave the Social Service program. We saw him this afternoon for a father’s day barbeque. He stood next to his best friend said, "Mom, take this picture and put it on your site! Let everyone see me!" We all smiled and I told Mike that everyone around the world would see him!! Here is our son Mike!!!
This is for you Michael!!
We love you!
